Celebrities on Ozempic: From Elon Musk to Harvey Fierstein

Ozempic and Elon Musk

The new weight loss drugs, Ozempic and related drugs like Semaglutide, Tirzepaide, and GlP-1, have caught the attention of many Hollywood stars. Some celebrities have spoken openly about them, while others, like Elon Musk, have hinted at them. These medications, developed initially to manage type 2 diabetes, have gained widespread attention for their remarkable effects on weight loss.

In this blog, we will share the thoughts of the top 10 celebrities like Elon Musk, Kelly Clarkson, Josh Gad, and many more about Ozempic and Semaglutide.

1. Kelly Clarkson and Ozempic

During an episode of her talk show, Kelly Clarkson opened up about her weight loss journey in a conversation with Whoopi Goldberg. She revealed that she is using a medication to help her shed pounds, though she clarified it’s not Ozempic. “Everyone thinks it’s Ozempic — it’s not. It’s something else,” Clarkson explained. “But it’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right.”

Clarkson shared that the weight-loss medication has been “really good” for her, despite her initial hesitation to try it due to past health concerns. “My doctor chased me for like two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it, I already have thyroid problems,’” she said. However, she ultimately decided to give it a try after her blood work showed concerning results. “I did it because my blood work got so bad,” she admitted.

Reflecting on her weight, Clarkson noted, “My heaviest, I was like 203, and I’m 5 foot 3 and a half.” She also addressed assumptions about her emotional state during that time, saying, “It’s funny because people assume, ‘Oh, she must’ve been miserable, depressed, whatever,’ and I was like, ‘No, I was not.

2. Josh Gad

Josh Gad opened up about his experience with a GLP-1 drug during an appearance on Armchair Expert, sharing how it has transformed his relationship with food and weight. He explained, “[The GLP-1 drug] has suppressed, in a great way, that noise … when I wake up, I feel hunger pains — and so much of that is psychological, right? — and what this does is it takes away that signal.”

Reflecting on his identity and career, Gad admitted, “I’ve always been the funny fat guy. Can I be the funny skinny guy? Can I be the hot leading man? I don’t know that people would accept me as those things.” Despite the uncertainty, he emphasized that his primary motivation for losing 40 pounds on the medication was rooted in his family. “It’s a miracle drug … My primary goal is, I want to be there for my kids. Everything else is bulls-”

3. Kathy Bathes

Kathy Bates recently revealed that she has lost 100 pounds over the past seven years, attributing her success to a combination of lifestyle changes and the use of Ozempic. In an interview with People, she addressed the assumptions surrounding her weight loss, saying, “There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic. But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”

Bates also discussed her journey during an October 2024 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she clarified her use of Ozempic. “I’ve recently gone on Ozempic, and everybody said, ‘Oh, she did it with Ozempic,’ but that’s not true. I started doing that about a year ago for my diabetes, and that’s helped me lose the last 15 pounds or so,” she explained. She emphasized that even with the medication, maintaining her weight still requires effort. “But even with the Ozempic, I still have to pay attention (to my eating).”

4. Harvey Fierstein

Harvey Fierstein has spoken candidly about his experience with weight loss medication, shedding light on the misconceptions surrounding weight and body image. “People don’t understand that being fat is not a choice. It’s something that your body is out of whack, and [weight loss medication] puts your body in whack,” he explained.

He emphasized how the medication has transformed his relationship with food, making him feel more in control without the constant struggle of dieting. “What’s different is what the drug actually does for you, which is: I don’t feel like I’m dieting. I feel like a normal person. I can go and have dinner with friends and not have to eat every piece of bread on the table, and then not go have ice cream when I’m done with dinner.” For Fierstein, the medication has been a game-changer, allowing him to live more freely while maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

5. Elon Musk

Elon Musk has openly shared his thoughts on weight loss medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro, even playfully referencing his own experience. On X (formerly Twitter), he quipped, “Ozempic Santa,” though he later added that he found Mounjaro to be more effective for his personal weight loss journey.

Musk also highlighted the broader potential of GLP-1 drugs, advocating for their accessibility.

He wrote on X, “Nothing would do more to improve the health, lifespan, and quality of life for Americans than making [GLP-1 drugs] super low cost to the public.” His comments reflect both his personal experience and his belief in the transformative impact these medications could have on public health.

6. Jim Gaffigan

Comedian Jim Gaffigan revealed in a November 2024 interview with People that he lost 50 pounds using Mounjaro, a decision he made after his weight reached 270 pounds.

Initially skeptical, Gaffigan admitted, “I had very low expectations because I did know someone that had tried it, and they were like, ‘Oh no, I was just nauseous for a week.’ And then I thought my true joy of eating would overpower anything.”

However, the medication proved to be a game-changer for him. “I feel good,” he shared. “I’m just grateful because it’s such a better life.” Gaffigan also emphasized the importance of normalizing conversations around weight-loss drugs, aiming to reduce the stigma. “I almost thought it was kind of odd that people were resistant to talking about it.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. There’s people walking around that obviously do not have blonde hair — yet they do. I don’t think that’s weird, either. It’s just whatever gets you through,” he said.

For Gaffigan, the medication has not only transformed his health but also his perspective on seeking help for weight management.

7. Brooks Nader

Model Brooks Nader found herself at the center of playful speculation when one of her sisters mentioned her weight loss in a TikTok video. In the clip, which featured the popular “suspect” challenge, her sister joked, “Suspect randomly lost 20 pounds; says it’s from working out, but she got on Ozempic.”

The lighthearted comment sparked curiosity and conversation, though Nader herself has not publicly confirmed or denied the claim. The video added to the ongoing buzz surrounding Ozempic and its growing popularity among celebrities and influencers.

8. Bella Throne

Bella Thorne recently opened up about her struggles with body image and the pressure she feels from the rising popularity of Ozempic. In a candid statement, she said, “So, I haven’t been feeling good about my body for a while and especially with everybody on Ozempic — it’s, like, setting all these crazy beauty standards that nobody can keep up with unless you’re on Ozempic.”

Thorne expressed frustration with the unrealistic expectations being set by the trend, but also shared that she’s finally in a better place with her self-confidence. She concluded with a bold message to the medication, saying, “I’m finally feeling good, so Ozempic, you can [middle finger raised] off.” Her remarks highlight the emotional toll of societal beauty standards and her determination to embrace her body on her own terms.

9. Kandi Burruss and Ozempic

Kandi Burruss shared her experience with weight loss medication during an interview, revealing that it didn’t deliver the results she had hoped for. “Last year, I tried it. I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight,” she explained.

Her doctor was equally puzzled, telling her, “I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people.” Burruss added that the medication didn’t curb her appetite as it has for others. “It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal, and dessert, okay? It didn’t stop anything for me.”

The experience left her feeling disheartened. “When you see it worked for other people and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed. Realistically, it makes you feel like, ‘What is wrong with me? Why is it not working for me?’” Burruss’s candid reflection highlights the emotional challenges that can come with weight loss efforts, especially when expectations aren’t met.

10. Nigella Lawson and Ozempic

Nigella Lawson, the renowned food writer and television personality, shared her thoughts on the idea of using Ozempic in a characteristically candid and food-loving manner. She recalled, “I read something once where someone said, ‘I was on Ozempic and it was the first time I didn’t think about food all the time,’ and I thought, I can’t imagine anything worse than that.”

For Lawson, food is a source of joy and creativity, and she embraces her passion for it wholeheartedly. She added with her signature warmth, “I take great pleasure in thinking about food all of the time.” Her comments reflect her deep connection to food as not just sustenance but also a central part of her life and identity.
